Winchester Guildhall - Second Topping Out In 200 Years
24th May 2010
The new stainless steel roof was accepted on behalf of Winchester City Council by Kevin Warren and Councillor Kelsie Learney from Gentle Consulting Director, Ray Jones, as part of the £4m refurbishment works being carried out by Gentle Consulting. The works, including the new roof, new disabled access, a new cafe and internal refurbishment will be completed by the end of 2010.
The Winchester Guildhall building is now over 150 years old and a tidy up is well overdue which in part has been made possible following a legacy from the late Marchioness of Winchester, Bapsybanoo Parvey. The works will enhance the building for the people of Winchester and the many visitors it receives throughout the year.
Gentle Consulting's Project Managers, Geoff Wardell and Malcolm Hardy, said "this is a very interesting and challenging project with many historical and ancient building practices being found as we open up various areas of the building. The client is very much involved and very interested in the old works we find.
