Project Completion: Oxford Brookes University Enabling Works
30th Mar 2011
The Oxford Brookes Enabling Works project is now complete having finished on time and within budget.
The £5.5m project commenced in August 2009 with a Gentle site based Construction Management team and consisted of preparing the campus' service infrastructure for future development of a new student centre. These works included the redirecting all of mains water, gas, electricity, data, telecoms and BMS network, as well as surface and foul water drainage to facilitate the footprint of the new building, whilst allowing the University to continue its daily activities with as little interruption as possible.
Before excavation to one section of the culvert was started, 100mtrs of piles, 7mtr deep, were installed to support the footings too adjacent buildings. The Lloyd building, a 1970’s five storey teaching and office building had to be first separated from an attached building and then carefully demolished to make way for the new centre.
Gentle Consulting worked very closely with the management, teaching and maintenance staff of Oxford Brookes University to ensure all eventualities were taken into account before any areas of the enabling works were started and this close liaison was recognised by an end of project party in appreciation of Gentle's Construction Management team.
Another successful conclusion for Gentle Consulting to add to its growing list of Construction Management projects.
