The project involved the installation and fit-out out two modular buildings to provide 2100m2 of temporary office and teaching accommodation following the catastrophic fire which destroyed the existing Mountbatten Building. The completed facility was handed over fully serviced and equipped, ready for use by the university staff and students.
Following the fire, there was an urgent need to provide temporary accommodation for the students and staff of the Optoelectronics Research Centre and the School of Electronics and Computer Science. Gentle Consulting was appointed as project manager, construction manager and cost consultant to ensure this extremely challenging project was delivered in the shortest time possible. The use of construction management allowed an early start on site to be achieved and this, together with 7 day working, including over the Christmas period, resulted in a project duration of just 8 weeks.
