The project involved the installation and fit-out of a two storey modular building providing 1500m2 of temporary R&D post graduate facilities and teaching laboratories following the catastrophic fire which destroyed the existing Mountbatten Building. The completed facility was handed over fully serviced and equipped, including environmentally controlled space, chilled water, gasses and fume extract and ventilation, laboratory benching/equipment and furniture.
Following the fire, there was an urgent need to provide temporary accommodation for the students and staff of the Optoelectronics Research Centre and the School of Electronics and Computer Science.
Gentle Consulting was appointed as project manager, construction manager and cost consultant to ensure this extremely challenging project was delivered in the shortest time possible. The use of construction management allowed an early start on site, with the facility being delivered in just 10 weeks from inception to handover.
