Gentle Consulting acted as Project and Construction Managers on clean-room fits outs (Phase 2) for the University of Southampton's new Mountbatten Building.
The works themselves were within live clean rooms installing numerous tools and equipment requiring hook-up to primary plant which had been installed under a previous contract. As the works were carried out in a live environment, they were required to be to a very high standard and close tolerance. As part of the contract Gentle Consulting also managed the decomissioning, transportation and installation of all users' specialist equipment/tools; this being a highly complex programme of works to ensure that ongoing research projects were not interrupted.
The Mountbatten Building was a RIBA 2009 Award Winner due, in part, to its design to consume 65% less energy than a comparable scheme of this type.
