Gentle Consulting is working within the University of Southampton Programme Management Unit, acting as Decommissioning Project Manager for this existing seven storey 30,000 m2 biomedical facility in preparation for demolition in 2011. The project is part of a wider £150m scheme to develop the Maritime Centre of Excellence in partnership with University.

The project requires the decommissioning of approximately 1,000 rooms within the building and involves the clean up of chemical, biological and radiation contamination, removal of asbestos containing materials, remaining equipment, fixtures, fittings and finishes.

The project is being undertaken in three distinct phases which reflect the phased vacation of areas by University staff and students. Phase one and phase two areas being decommissioned whilst the remainder of the building is occupied and fully active.
