Gentle Consulting is working with the Estates and Facilities Department at the University of Southampton as global project manager in connection with a major organisational restructuring programme. The appointment involves the strategic management of cost, programme, space, communications and risk together with the delivery of all refurbishment works including design, project and cost management. Detailed move management is also being provided by Gentle Consulting to ensure seamless relocation of staff into their new locations.

The works and moves are being delivered in phases to suit the University's requirements and programme for restructuring. The project is being delivered against an extremely lean budget, with the ultimate aim of saving the University £7m per annum in operating costs. This has necessitated extensive value engineering to be undertaken by the project team, working closely with the users and University stakeholders to ensure key business requirements are maintained. The relocation of staff has required detailed logistical planning planning to reduce disruption particularly given the absence of any temporary decant space.
